Cape Gooseberry Salsa

Cape Gooseberry Salsa

I love salsas but I have an issue with them. You see salsas, while very textured and fresh are very linear with flavour. They tend to be spicy for the most part and part of the reason for this is because they are supposed to be paired with a fairly neutral accompaniment like a chip to balance out the flavour. But what if I told you that you can make a balanced salsa as well. Enter the Cape gooseberry. Since salsas are brined with tart lemon juice, the only thing that you taste with the fruit is sweet. Its perfect just as is, on toast, and with chips. Comment below on how you would like to eat these! Happy Cooking!

Recipe

Ingredients

1 medium tomato, diced fine

1/2 onion, diced fine

Basil, bunched and sliced in chiffonade

1/2 cup of cape gooseberries, quartered

Juice of 1 lemon

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Slice all the ingredients and mix well with lemon, paprika, and salt. Serve fresh with chips, toast, or any accompaniment of your choice.
